Ahead of Wednesday’s governorship election in
Edo State, the National Chairman of the All
Progressives Congress, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun,
has appealed to the residents to support the party

in consolidating the developmental achievements
recorded in the state.
Odigie-Oyegun, who made this known while
briefing journalists in Benin on Sunday, noted that
having witnessed massive developments during
the tenure of Governor Adams Oshiomhole, it was
necessary to accelerate progress by voting for the
APC candidate, Godwin Obaseki.
He also said that it was unfortunate that the same
persons, who allegedly failed the state in 10 years
of governance – under the Peoples Democratic
Party – were seeking a return to government.

He explained, “In the last 16 years of democracy in
our country, our state has experienced government
by two political parties. It is incontestable that
compared with the first 10 years of the PDP
administration, the nearly eight years of the
present APC administration has witnessed
tremendous growth in infrastructural and human
resources development of our state.”
The former governor, who hails from the Oredo
Local Government Area of the state, emphasised
the need for Edo residents to set aside their
personal differences and ensure that the state
remained in the mainstream of politics at the
centre in order to continue to attract federal
presence.
Odigie-Oyegun said, “Edo State has the singular
blessing of producing the current national
chairman of the governing party, an advantage
which should be pressed to the optimum benefit
for our people.
“Your elected governor and the national chairman
working together will ensure and attract the
maximum federal presence to Edo State.
“Edo State must retain its position in the
mainstream of national politics in order to sustain
and enhance the bargaining capacity of our leaders
at the national table of leadership.”
