Governor Akinwunmi Ambode
The Lagos State Government on Thursday said
residents should expect a heavy presence of
security agents at praying grounds,
parks and malls during the Sallah celebration on
Monday and Tuesday.
A statement issued by Governor Akinwunmi
Ambode’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Habib Aruna,
said security agencies had been alerted to be in
strategic places before, during and after the
celebrations to nip any potential security situation
in the bud.
He said that was the resolution during the monthly
security council meeting chaired by the governor
and attended by heads of all security agencies in
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Fatai
Owoseni, said the council appraised the security
strategies already put in place for the celebrations
and members were satisfied with the arrangement
put in place.
Owoseni debunked reports on casualties during the
clash in the Hausa/Fulani communities in Abattoir,
Agege area of the state recently. He said only one
person was killed during the crisis.
He said security agencies responded swiftly to
douse the tension and that the mayhem was purely
an issue of miscreants and criminal elements
wanting to make life more difficult for the people.
The CP said the police also spoke with the leaders
of the communities on the need to embrace peace
and curb the excesses of the miscreants, while
more security personnel had been deployed in the
area to forestall a repeat.
