Stolen funds: Buhari wants removal of bureacracy


President Muhammadu Buhari of Nigeria has asked
for the removal of unnecessary bottlenecks
regarding the recovery of money which were taken
out of Africa without any legal backing.
The president made this known while making an
address at the meeting of the Committee of
Governors of the Association of African Central
Banks at Abuja, the nation’s capital on Wednesday,
August 17.

In addition, Buhari charged the central bank
governors to bring up indigenous solutions to the
economic crises rocking African countries
currently, instead of relying on foreign solution.

As the administration of President Buhari
intensifies its efforts at recovering stolen funds, a
non-governmental organisation, SERAP, said the
World Bank is requesting for more time to give
SERAP information on how the Abacha loot was
In addition, it should be noted that when the
Abacha loot is released, the $321 million will make
it $1.044 billion of stolen loot,
returned by Switzerland so far.
